Give your Children the most important Training

Since the age of 6 months Kennedy has been in music class and Lauren started in the womb. They have taken ballet and swimming classes and Kennedy piano classes. Many of us start training our kids early for things such as sports, ballet, the arts, and many other things. But do we adequately train them for Life? We will make whatever arrangements necessary to get them to the many activities that they are engaged in weekly. We tell them if they start that they must finish. We tell them if they want to be good them must practice. But do we give them the training that is most important to their survival? Bible Training! Bible training is vital to everything that our children will aspire to do and become. We must diligently take them to Sunday school and Bible Study every week. If they aren’t learning what God wants and expects of them, how will they know what to do when situations arise? Not only does bible training help them but it is a constant reminder for us of God’s word. I remember three months after Lauren finished her treatment (May 2006) and we were home and things were going well, her blood platelets dropped. Blood platelets are designed to keep you from clotting and when they drop you could bleed to death. Well Lauren had platelets issues for 5 months and for 5 months all I could think was Lord, I know you didn’t save Lauren from cancer just to bleed to death. She was getting platelet transfusions every other day. For five months I traveled back and forth to St. Jude every other day so that we could stay home. One morning, we were on our way to the Pediatrician to have her platelets checked and I look in the back and noticed that Lauren had a huge blood blister on the inside of her mouth. I knew then that her platelets were low, so I turned around and went back home picked up a few items and headed to Memphis. I called to pediatrician to tell her that we were heading to St. Jude to get platelets. In the middle of the conversation, I just broke down. I’d had enough and was at wits end. I was on the road driving and Kennedy and Lauren was in the back. I was trying to cry to myself so that they wouldn’t hear me but I was crying. After miles of crying and praying and crying and asking questions, I heard a little voice in the back singing “Come to Jesus”. I fixed my mirror and I looked in the back and my then three year child (Kennedy) was singing “Come to Jesus”. So I just starting singing with her and we sang the verses “He is Able”, “Only Trust Him” and after singing that song I had been revived. I realized that through Kennedy God was able to bring me back to my senses and to renew my spirit. Every time I think about this story or tell it I am amazed. It was also on that very day that after five months of searching for answer to Lauren’s problem the doctors discovered that she had a virus and when her body’s defense was fighting the virus it was killing her platelets in the process. They gave her two treatments and she hasn’t had platelets issues since that very day in October 2006. Even when we give our children bible training, we know that they may still error just like we have. But they will be better equipped to make those most important decisions and God can’t bring to their memory what hasn’t been put there. Also, Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.” It is not enough to give them the world but then they loose their souls. I’m praying for peace, love and harmony in your homes as well as mine. Love, Benita
