Wise in Our Own Eyes: Sexual Sins

It seems that in today’s society the world is setting the standards and we as Christians are following. It used to mean a lot to say “I am a Christian”. If you were believed to be a Christian people respected you and they didn’t curse or drank around you. Now it is very hard to tell the Christians from the sinners of the world because many Christians think and act worldly. They act as if they don’t know God or His word. I Corinthians 3:19 says, “Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.” In other words we need to turn away from human or worldly wisdom and seek Godly wisdom. Worldly wisdom tells us that it is okay to have sex before marriage. Worldly wisdom tells us that extra marital affairs are okay. Worldly wisdom tells us that it is okay to be gay, lesbian or bi-sexual. Worldly wisdom tells us that prostitution is okay in some forms. Not only does worldly wisdom condones these acts of sin but exploits it on television daily even on children shows to some extent. Many commercials, videos, songs, etc are of sexual nature. Our children can see sex anytime of the day on television and we wonder why people are addicted to it. If you are a Christian don’t be fooled by the world’s wisdom. 1 Corinthian 6:9-10 asks the question “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” When we are wise in our own eyes, we live in sin and we are okay with it. We make statements such as “If that’s what they want to do, who I’m I to say something”, “everybody’s doing it” or “they did it and nothing happened to them”. When it comes to sin, it doesn’t matter what we think or what people are doing; only God’s word will stand in the end. Romans 1:32 warns us “who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.” For those of us who have been partakers or approvers we are all in jeopardy of death as a result of sin. It is my prayer that we will read and study God’s word more so that we may know what he expects from us. We must then teach or children and help our family and friends stay true to God’s word. Let us not be wise in our own eyes but rather let us be wise in the word of God. Love, Benita
