The Hills

While running the last two miles of my four mile run last Saturday, the rolling hills were beginning to get to me. I begin to wonder whether it would be better to have just one huge hill or continuous rolling hills. If I had just one huge hill then I could just run smoothly at when I reach the huge hill use all my energy to reach the top. Once reaching the top running downhill would be not problem then back to smooth running. On the other hand if I have continuous rolling hills, I am constantly prepared for them as they come. Continual rolling hills will condition the body to be prepared for hills always as opposed to one huge hill which comes every now and then.
As I made my way home or base destination the last rolling hill was long and hard. I begin to cry out "Crap, Crap, Crap!", thinking somehow or another that my frustration with the hills would be made better. I finally reached the top of the hill and of course my cry of "Crap" didn't help nor did it make be feel any better. It was at that moment when I blurted out, "I look to the hills from which cometh my help, my help comes from the Lord". Not the exact quote from Psalms 121:1-2 but just what it meant"I look to the hills from whence cometh my help. ...my help commeth from the Lord". I begin to meditate on those words and my energy was renewed and I made it home in good time and I was feeling good.
The Psalms 121:1-2 is a good reminder not to look at the hills in our lives as giants to be undefeated. But rather look at the hill and see God who is higher, wider and mightier! When the hills come we should think on Philippians 4:13 which tells us "I can do all things through Christ who stenghteneth me".
It is my prayer that in the future when hills come, we will gladly run them knowing that we are not alone and our help comes from the Lord.
Be blessed,
Benita
